Facing onto the historic Boston Common, the 1960's-era Hammerstein Music Building was renovated to create new Class A corporate offices and meeting rooms. The Owner's intent was to open up the interior to the stunning views over the Common, and to create a unique, jewel-box like presence in a newly vitalized mixed-use neighborhood. |
The original foundation and steel frame were retained, as well as an ornamental stair connecting the first two levels. Fire stairs, HVAC, power, and life safety were all brought up to current code. The exterior wall is metal and low-emissive glass curtain wall. The design motif was selected as a full scale mock up of the palette of materials to be used in the large mixed-use complex across the street. The new elevator, located in the existing hoistway, was extended to reach a new roof terrace. The entire project, from design through to occupancy, took six months. |
